Essien returns to light training
Ghana midfielder Michael Essien has returned to training after recovering from a troublesome knee injury which ruled him out of the World Cup. The midfield enforcer started light training sessions with Chelsea on Monday and he was accompanied by Jon Mikel Obi, Yossi Benayun and Petr Cech.

Cech found the time to praise the skillful Israel international, who was signed as a direct replacement for Joe Cole: "I think he is a very intelligent player, very technical and different from other types of players we have. For me he is a very good player so I think he will be very welcome. The majority of the first-team squad, including England internationals John Terry, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole, will return in two weeks' time.

Jose Bosingwa is not yet ready to join with the rest of the players as he continues his comeback from knee surgery, but it is hoped he will be ready for the start of the competitive season on August 8.

Carlo Ancelotti shared his thoughts with the supporters: 'We started on Monday, last year we started at the same time and we need maybe five weeks to prepare the team, to do the best physical preparation”, the Italian explained. “We will have the other players on July 22 and 26, but for the first games of pre-season they will not be involved. 'It could be a little different this year, a little difficult because we don't have all the players to start the season but we can still do a good job".
